South West Reading Passport

No need to go abroad this year, you can enjoy a literary journey around the South West! Wiltshire’s libraries are joining forces with libraries across the region for the South West Libraries Reading Passport.

When does it take place?

Between now and 30 September 2013 all libraries in the South West of England are inviting people to take a reading journey in our beautiful region.

Who is featured?

Authors featured in the Reading Passport have either lived or written about the location in which they are featured.

There are so many authors in the South West we couldn't include them all but we have listed a few in the Reading Passport to start you on your journey.

Each page of the passport will have a list of 6 authors from a different library authority. If you take a passport, we can also judge how many people took part in the activity!

Some longer lists of suggested books are at the bottom of this page in PDF format.

What books can I read?

People can read books from anywhere in the region - they don't have to start with, or even include, one from their own authority. The idea is to promote the wide range of fiction and non-fiction that has come out of our region and give people some new reading ideas. There is no maximum number of books to be read – though we hope you are tempted by more than one!

Enter our competition

There is a tear out page in the passport for you to recommend your favourite book. Each review handed in before 30th September will be entered into a prize draw in Wiltshire to win a Sony eReader. There are three eReaders to be won. Terms and conditions are available at the library.

Pop into your library to pick up your passport and start your journey..

Last year’s Reading Passport

Last year’s challenge involved books from around the world and the promotion, one of the London 2012 projects, was mentioned in the official commemorative guide to the 2012 games!
