This book is so beautiful and tragic and enlightening. I couldn't put it down. It contains many horrors faced by the main characters but also tenderness, and hope, alongside the despair, fear and loss...almost every human emotion is here and you feel it with them. The author very skilfully draws you in and makes you invest in the characters' journey, all the while drip feeding you stories of how different their lives used to be. I can't recommend this book enough.
