Notes:
Read by Alex Jennings.
Kate Atkinson's 'Life After Life' explored the possibility of infinite chances, as Ursula Todd lived through the turbulent events of the last century again and again. In 'A God in Ruins', Atkinson turns her focus on Ursula's beloved younger brother Teddy - would-be poet, RAF bomber pilot, husband and father - as he navigates the perils and progress of the 20th century. For all Teddy endures in battle, his greatest challenge will be to face living in a future he never expected to have.

Reviews
A God in Ruins follows a similar format to Life after Life in that several possibilities are offered for the main character's life. The hero is Teddy, who was a pilot during WWII and in his old age keeps reliving the raids he undertook, together with other parts of his life. Every decade is beautifully captured in just the right detail and the characters come alive with the author's descriptions, there is a lot of humour too. It does come as a shock to find at the end of the book that this life did not turn out as described. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed reading it, and would rate it 9/10.
